Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning

The mission of Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning® is to foster in persons 55+ a quest for lifelong learning that enriches the mind and spirit to pursue wisdom, service, and understanding. Programs are offered to Landis Homes residents, to affiliates and partners of Landis Communities, as well as individuals in the wider community. 

Each fall and spring, more than 30 courses are offered onsite at Landis Homes on subjects including history, arts, religion, contemporary issues, science, technology, wellness, and more. These opportunities also include hands-on offerings and off-site excursions.

Courses this term invite you to cook homemade pasta, immerse yourself in Middle Eastern art, visit Susquehannock Indian sites in southern Lancaster County, create your own memory collage, delve into the poetry of Robert Frost, learn the history of Latinos in Lancaster County, and develop skills for life history interviewing and for creating respectful conversation across lines of difference.

Sneak Peek into Spring 2024

  • Immerse yourself in a world of beauty and inventiveness as you experience the power of Middle Eastern art in evoking understanding
  • Learn about the history and culture of Puerto Ricans in Pennsylvania Dutch country and their constructed identity as “Dutchiricans”
  • Delve into the poetry of Robert Frost and the recognition of ordinary heroes, in his poetry and in our own lives
  • Visit Native American sites in southern Lancaster County as you come to value the legacy and contributions of Lancaster’s earliest inhabitants
  • Follow your own creativity to construct a memory collage through art
  • Develop skills for life-history interviewing and for creating respectful conversation across lines of difference
  • Sing-along with rock and roll favorites as our instructor charts the development of this musical art form
  • Be inspired by life-history interviews with significant Lancaster-area community leaders
  • Explore the Canadian wilderness to view the cycle of life among wildlife in a travelog of the natural world
  • Hear from an author’s personal memoirs about living and leaving her Amish life
  • Cook (and eat!) delicious homemade pasta and pizza with our award-winning chef during a hands-on “Little Taste of Italy” Cooking Class
  • Immerse yourself in Revolutionary War history through a class on Lafayette and a field trip to Historic Rock Ford
